What makes a leader?
We come across people in leadership roles in most activities in life. Starting from the class monitor in school, to the general secretary of a college student body and to the boss in a workplace. More often than not I have been let down by most of the leaders I have encountered in my life. The reasons for a person not measuring up to my ideas of a leader have been diverse. I have felt that some leaders did not have the credentials for the job and some just didnt have the personal integrity to lead other men. The worst let downs in my experience has been from leaders who didnt have the courage to take charge. They were the ones who took credit for successes and passed the blame down in the event of failures. For insatnce I had a boss who took credit for every good thing that the tean came up with. But when there were failures someone else was always to take the blame for it. It would be educating to know what other people think of as failures in leadership. Im listening......

Recently I attended a training session on Soft skills in my office. As the target audience were mostly engaged in leadership positions, we were given "directions" as to what should be the right course of action in many circumstances. Jist of the session was that lesser subjectivity in analysing people and appraising their activities, better would be the efficiency. But my doubt is without subjectivity isn't the "human element" itself removed ?
