Thanksgiving

I have not unpdated this blog for a long time. A lot has happened since I last updated the blog.
My wife joined me here on Nov 12th. Keep busy at home too now.
I bought a car. Its a pristine 1996 Toyota Corolla with low miles on it.
I bought a camera. Its a Canon S2 IS. Had been wanting it for a long time.

Life is better here now. No more waiting at the bus stop for hours. No more rubbing your palms feverishly to keep the blood flowing. And most important of all no more asking people for favors.

It took me one hour to learn driving. I practiced for an hour within the confines of my Apartment Complex and the next hour I was on my way to Jordan Lake on US-64. Reckless but effective. Automatic transmission rules.

We went Thanksgiving shopping on Black Friday. Woke up at 3:00 a.m. and were queued in front of Circuit City by 4:00 a.m. The shop opened at 5:00 a.m. and from that moment on it was pure frenzy. I got a good deal on Sandisk 512 MB SD cards. Got then for 10$ each. Also got a good deal on a GE 5.8 GHz cordless phone. Bought it for 5$ as a gift for my mother. Then we went to Walmart where my wife rushed to the clothing section. Within minutes we were sitting on a pile of God knows what. Then it was time for Best Buy. I bought a SanDisk Sansa 512MB MP3/FM Tuner/Recorder for my wife there. Then we went to Sears where we didnt do much except for looking around. By the time we were back home it was 12:30 p.m. Whoof!!! this is the craziest shopping I have done so far.

Two types of people

According to Earl Nightingale there are two types of people.

Goal People

Most of us are undoubtedly familiar with goal people. They are the individuals who write down their objectives and timetables for reaching them, and then focus on attaining them, one by one. By laying out a roadmap of future achievements in front of them, goal people give their creative minds a clear set of stimuli to work on. Their subconscious minds can then get to work incubating ideas and insights that will help them to reach their goals.

River People

River people, on the other hand, don't like to follow such a structured route to success. They are called river people because they are happiest and most fulfilled when they are wading in a rich "river" of interest -- a subject or profession about which they are very passionate. While they may not have a concrete plan with measurable goals, river people are often successful because they are so passionate about their area of interest.

River people are explorers, continually seeking out learning opportunities and new experiences. For river people, joy comes from the journey, not from reaching the destination -- exactly the opposite of goal people.

I am definitely a mix of both. I did a DISC analysis recently and found it to be true. I have a natural Influencer persona. I am not structured, I like to explore new people and possibilities and am passionate about certain things in my life. But my adapted persona is that of a Dominant Dictator. I like setting goals and working my way towards them. I am very demanding at work and continuously measure each and every action of mine. I am creative at work but my creativity at work is incremental. I build upon existing ideas and always have a goal in mind.
